    In less than 1-hour, you can be using most of the power of OmniOutliner. While the book is for Version4 (and 5 has been available for awhile), most of the specific step-by-step instructions still apply. And, it isn’t difficult to adjust to the several new steps. All said, I recommend this to beginners and intermediate users alike. Well done!

    If you have or plan to use OmniOutliner, read and do this tutorial — it’s examplary (so much so that I think “the support humans” at OmniGroup are serious when they say they take support seriously). If you are charged with writing a tutorial on how to use software, read and do this tutorial. Use it as an example :-) . Just for filler: I’m coming from Circus Ponies NoteBook (sadly no longer supported), which I’ve used since it debuted in 2003. (I first saw it as Alphabet on the NeXT.) NoteBook delivered similar functionality in a very different way. I could not figure out the hierarchy of formating in OmniOutliner. This tutorial taught me a significant part of what I need to know. Thank you Omni Group.
  • Great Quality, But Limited

    For what this book does, it should really be titled “Getting Started with Styles in OmniOutliner 4”, because it gives you the basics of editing existing styles, describes how the style engine applies styles to a document (from the "Whole Document” cascading on down to more specific areas of the document), and walks you through creating a theme, saving it as a template, and applying it to new and existing documents. However, it really ends there, and from the title I had hoped it would provide more useful scenarios for working with the tool.
