"Working in OmniOutliner 4" is a  hands-on tutorial that takes you through the process of creating your first OmniOutliner document. Along the way, you'll learn how to create a custom template (or theme) that you can later use on the documents you create.

You'll learn some of the basic mechanics of OmniOutliner: how to enter text, move around, and ways to organize your content. Following that, you'll dive in deeper to take a closer look at OmniOutliner's layering and style model as you build out the styles for your own template.

By the time you've reached the end of the tutorial, you'll have mastered OmniOutliner and should be able to create templates and styles with, well, style.

    I finally set some time aside to get really familiar with my OmniOutliner 4.2 copy this weekend. I've had the app for a while because I thought I could use it for a variety of note-taking related tasks, but always kind of felt intimidated by it when trying to actually use it and often reverted to simpler text editors because of that. So on Friday, I downloaded the two OmniOutliner iBooks on my iPad (this one and the user manual) and set to read them attentively, determined to get confortable with the app. I have to say that I have been quite impressed. The books are very well written, easy to read and understand and really do a great job of demystifying OmniOutliner. I finally feel like I get the app well enough to put it to good use, so big thanks to the Omni Documentation Team for making this invaluable resource available for free!
